Free Cyntoia: A Story of Redemption

Join BSA and UPC this February 6, 2020 from 6PM-8PM at Old Cabell Hall to hear guest speaker Cyntoia Brown speak about her experience overcoming adversity in the US prison system. In her own words, Cyntoia Brown shares the riveting and redemptive story of how she changed her life for the better. Convicted at the age of 16 and released 15 years later, Cyntoia has found hope in spite of her experiences with sex trafficking and a murder conviction that could have incarcerated her for life.

The event will feature poetic performances by Flux Poetry.

Doors open at 5 PM.

"Continuing His Dream and Works"

King Jr., the ''Continuing His Dream & Works'' event will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at the historic Carver Recreation Center (233 4th St. NW-Charlottesville,Va.). The event is a family affair and free to everyone.

"Walk a Mile For Martin" Event

For the 6th Annual "Walk a Mile For Martin" Event, students, teachers, and families will walk at least one mile around the neighborhood in order to march against some sort of injustice that they personally choose such as: bullying, hunger, poverty, or educational inequality. The goal is to get our school communities to walk for a positive purpose. They could even dedicate their mile to a person who has sacrificed for them. All participants have the option of walking or running as many miles as they would like.

Known by many as the "Gospel Temptations," Larnell Starkey and the Spiritual Seven is made up of brothers, sons and cousins who are all members of the Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wirtz, Virginia. Their music, a zestful blend of traditional gospel with a twist of contemporary soul, showcases the group's amazing vocal harmonies from high-flying falsettos to the deep rich sounds of the low bass. For 50 years, this award-winning ensemble has moved the spirit of people of all ages and denominations.
