UVA is committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and non-discriminatory environment for all members of the University community, including students, faculty and staff who are pregnant or caring for children.
This page includes information about pregnancy and parenting resources and support for students, faculty, and staff. For information about resources and the availability of accommodations during the academic admissions or recruitment/hiring process, please contact EOCR.
Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation is Prohibited
UVA is also committed to addressing discrimination and harassment on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical issues, under UVA policy, state, and federal law. Discrimination may include preventing a pregnant student or employee’s access to educational or occupational programs or harassing a faculty or staff member because of their pregnancy. Harassment can take many forms, including verbal acts and name-calling, graphic and written statements, making sexual comments or jokes about an individual's pregnancy and other conduct that may be humiliating, physically threatening, or harmful.
UVA strictly prohibits retaliation against individuals who seek accommodations or report discrimination or harassment based on pregnancy. For more information about the University policies prohibiting discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, please see the Policies and Title IX sections of EOCR’s website.
Individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination, harassment, or retaliation are encouraged to contact EOCR, submit a report to UVA’s online reporting system, Just Report It, or file a complaint with EOCR under the Preventing and Addressing Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation (“PADHR”) Complaint Procedures.
