The Americans with Disabilities Act was a landmark legislation passed 30 years ago that was designed to more fully include people with disabilities in American society, especially in the workplace. Since that time, other policies have reformed programs related to special education, community living, employment supports, health care, and federal disability programs.

Wednesday's event will be an Advocacy Panel with students talking about what advocacy means for the disability community at UVA and in our nation today. This event will be catered by Chipotle!

The Disability Studies Initiative (DSI) is hosting its first film screening of the year this Friday (9/20) from 4:00-6:00pm. We will be screening the film Far from the Tree. This documentary is about family dynamics when a family member has a disability. There will be light refreshments before the film. Afterwards, Professor Stramondo, who is featured in the film, will moderate a discussion.
